Who is Cindy?

I grew up in the shadow of Manhattan, outside the mouth of the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey.

Always a tomboy, I would be covered in dirt from playing outside. Summers were spent in the Catskill Mountains in New York State, sometimes working on an uncle’s dairy farm. I always loved school and was the first person in my family to seek higher education with a scholarship to Gettysburg College where I majored in Philosophy in an endeavor to answer all the big questions in life.

A few years after college, I wound up spending time with a guy from college named Charlie because mutual friends were getting married. Although he avoided me at times when we were in college and I denied knowing him once, we are now married with two sons. Our mutual friends are divorced. Life’s circumstances change. As we learn more about people, our perceptions shift. For the time being we live in the Washington, DC area where my husband is a government economist.

Twenty years ago I set out to “save the world” dedicating myself to nonprofit organizations working to improve the environment, affordable housing, and volunteer service. When I had my first son I knew I couldn’t leave him with anyone else, so I’ve spent the last ten years taking care of my sons and volunteering to help where I can.

My family stays pretty active and we enjoy biking, hiking, and camping, as well as any other activity we can find like golfing, skiing, and ice skating. To center myself and clarify my thoughts, I run and take yoga classes. I love indie music especially our local bands, as well as art. Sometimes I paint and create colored light with stained glass. Recently, I realized that I like to write.
